C'est un fichier d'exemple ce que tu as la je crois...

Moi j'ai gardé le fichier .fdi qu'Elgrande m'avait passé, qui est simple et fonctionne très bien :
Tu crée le fichier en faisant simplement, sudo gedit /etc/hal/fdi/policy/frenchlayout.fdi
Tu colles :

xorg

evdev
fr

Un reboot (ou tu relances Hal)
Et ca devrait marcher. (A voir en fonction de ton clavier aussi...) Inchallah

Pascal, pourrais-tu nous fournir ton fichier /var/log/Xorg.0.log que l'on puisse trouver ce qui cloche.

bon, il paraitrait que le problème vient de l'autodetection de HAL, qui est maintenant utilisée sur karmic à la place de xorg.conf.

j'ai ouvert un fil sur launchpad parce que, en parcourant les forums Ubuntu français et anglais, je me rends compte que beaucoup de personnes ont eu ce problème par le passé, règlé à coup de xorg.conf, mais beaucoup ont également ce problème avec karmic, et là on nous ressort toujours le xorg.conf qui ne sert à rien.

j'ai enfin trouvé ce problème à la con

lors de l'installation, karmic m'a demandé la langue et le fuseau horaire, mais pas le clavier, et par défault il était sur USA.

à l'installation, j'ai créé ma session utilisateur, et comme d'habitude je choisis la connexion automatique.

comme j'ai vu, sur divers forums, des gens dire que c'était la faute à Gnome, je me suis déconnecté de ma session, et là, dans le panneau de connexion j'ai vu ceci en bas: Langue: Français Clavier: USA

j'ai changé le clavier sur France, je me suis connecté, et effectivement le clavier était en français.

j'ai redémarré, histoire de voir, en laissant la connexion de session automatique, et rebelotte en USA.

j'ai donc supprimé la connexion automatique (Système > Administration > Fenêtre de connexion), et redémarré.

au redémarrage, j'ai remis le clavier sur France, puis je me suis connecté, puis une fois la session ouverte, j'ai réactivé la connexion automatique.

et maintenant, il est resté en Français, 3 reboots de suite

Je n'ai pas pris Ubuntu comme distribution Linux pour mes PC car je trouvais qu'ils cherchaient trop à ressembler à Windows mais vous allez me dire que je vois le mal partout.

C'est à la fois l'avantage et l'inconvénient de Ubuntu. Pour les transfuges de Windows, c'est l'idéal, le revers de la médaille c'est que si on ne fait pas d'effort, on reste une bille en Linux.
